Everything we do is guided by our kaupapa - Te Mana o Te Wai, Te Mana o Te Tangata - healthy water, healthy people. Waikato Waters is a joint council-controlled organisation, created to look after this most precious taonga - wai - ensuring clean, safe and reliable water services for everyone - today and for generations to come.
Ko te wai te oranga o te whenua, o te tangata hoki. Water is the life of the land and of the people.
Our story began in 2023, when councils and Iwi across the Waikato came together to explore a new way of delivering water services, one that reflected both local identity and shared responsibility. Public ownership means every dollar is reinvested into improving services, strengthening resilience and protecting the environment. It means that the pipes beneath our streets and the rivers that run beside our homes stay in public hands - now and forever.
E rere kau mai te awa nui nei, mai i te kāhui maunga ki Tangaroa. Ko Waikato te awa, he piko he taniwha.
From the mountains to the sea flows the great river of the Waikato, every bend, a guardian.
Our vision is simple - local voices, local delivery, local care, done well for the Waikato.
